Malay Wedding

One of Reed's coworkers, Hadi, invited us to his wedding celebration. We were very honored and excited to see a traditional Malay wedding reception. They had their marriage ceremony earlier in the day or the previous night.
Here are a few things another coworker told us about the ceremony and traditions.
The bride and groom each have a reception where they invite their entire community and friends to share in their new life. The friends and family have lunch and enjoy each others' company while they wait for the wedding party to arrive. Hanim, the bride, went with the women of her family to meet Hadi, the groom, and his family.

They were followed by a group of Kompang drummers and then their family. They walked down the road until they arrived at her family home. There they are blessed by their family with flowers and perfumes. After the family greets them, friends share their well wishes. Afterwards the bride and groom enjoy their lunch.

Hadi and Hanim hired a small group of Silat martial artists to perform as well. It was wonderful to see the poise, strength and skill of the fighters.

We had a wonderful time and wish Hadi and Hanim joy and happiness in their new life.

What a fabulous experience! Plus I don't believe I would ever see a martial arts performance at a wedding in the States. ;-) Love seeing the sides of different cultures.
